Welcome to Gustavus! Follow the schedule of events for your first day on campus as a Gustie.
Schedule of Events
8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. — Check-In and Residence Hall Move-In
Please check in at the Housing and Residence Life Office on the lower level of the Jackson Campus Center for your welcome packet and keys. Gather your student ID, orientation schedule, and necessary information for the next three days.
8:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m. — Three Crowns Card (Campus Safety Office in Carlson International Center, room 110)
If you don’t yet have your student ID, go to the Campus Safety Office to take your picture and get you your card. You’ll need your ID for meals and access to your dorm building beginning today.
9 a.m. — Wellness at Gustavus (Lund Center Information Desk) - Optional
Kick off your college wellness on the right foot with a tour of the Lund Center. Staff will provide an overview of the building and highlight equipment and facilities available.
9 a.m. — Yoga with the Gustavus Yoga Club (Cec Eckhoff Alumni Hall in Johnson Student Union) - Optional
Limited mats available. Please bring your own or feel free to utilize the track flooring.
10:30 a.m. — Student Employment Session (Heritage Banquet Room in Jackson Campus Center)
Kick off the year with an orientation to student employment. During this time you will learn what it means to be a working learner at Gustavus, meet your supervisor, and receive job-specific training information so you can start your first campus job off on the right foot. Your supervisor will reach out to you prior to this event.
12:30–1:30 p.m. — Lunch (Meet at the Information Desk in the lower level of Jackson Campus Center)
Introduce yourself to fellow transfer students and your transfer orientation leader, then head upstairs to enjoy a meal with your peers.
1:30 p.m. — Welcome Session (Beck 101)
Connect with other transfer students and meet your Gustie Greeter to get more acquainted with campus life. This session is designed to give you an overview of Transfer Student Orientation, a chance to connect with your peers, and share need-to-know information.
2:45 p.m. — Campus Tour (Information Desk in the lower level of Jackson Campus Center)
Join the Transfer Gustie Greeters as they take you around campus and show you some of the major study spots, campus resources, and buildings.
3:45 p.m. — Residence Hall Room Setup
Take some time to unpack your belongings and get acquainted with your room.
5:45 p.m. — Transfer Student BBQ and Tulip Planting (Interpretive Center at Gustavus Arboretum)
Join other transfer Gusties, the Transfer Gustie Greeters, and the Residential Life Collegiate Fellows (CFs) for this informal get-to-know-you dinner. Then, gather with fellow transfer students and Gustie Greeters in planting tulip bulbs that will bloom in the seasons ahead. This symbolic tradition celebrates your place within the Gustavus community and serves as a reminder that your roots here will continue to grow. Connect with peers and begin building lasting relationships beyond your orientation group.
7:00 p.m. — Relax and Craft (Center for Inclusive Excellence in the lower level of Johnson Student Union)
Join others for a quiet evening of crafts and connection.
7:00 p.m. — Square Dance (Don Roberts Hockey Arena in Lund Athletic Center)
You don’t want to miss this Gustavus tradition — cowboy boots and hat optional! (Open to all new and transfer students)
8:15 p.m. — Campus Life Kahoot with Peer Assistants (Evelyn Young Dining Room in Jackson Campus Center)
This fun, interactive session is an opportunity to understand campus norms, expectations, and resources at Gustavus related to healthy choices, policies, and implications related to alcohol use and sexual misconduct. (Open to all new and transfer students)
8:30 p.m. — Transfer Student Bonfire (Complex Fire Pit near the North, Gibbs, and Sorensen Halls)
Make s’mores and hang out with your Gustie Greeter and other current and former transfer students. This is a great time to get to know one another, tell stories, ask questions, and meet new people. Come alone or bring a friend. (Rain location: Center for Inclusive Excellence)
9:15 p.m. — Neon Dance (Cec Eckhoff Alumni Hall in Johnson Student Union)
Join your fellow classmates for a dance. Dress in your favorite neon-themed outfit! (Open to all new and transfer students)
