Welcome to Gustavus! Follow the schedule of events for your first day on campus as a Gustie.
Schedule of Events
8:00 a.m. — Residence Hall Move-In
9:30–11:15 a.m. — First Generation Family Welcome (Center for Inclusive Excellence in the lower level of Johnson Student Union)
The whole family is invited to this "come and go" mixer. Drop by as you are able to connect with current first-generation (first in their families to attend college) students, staff, and faculty. You'll make connections, learn about campus terminology and support, and get free First Gen swag. Cold drinks and snacks provided.
11:30 a.m. — Stop by tables at your residence hall (Norelius or Pittman) for your welcome packet/keys. Gather your Student ID, orientation schedule, and necessary information for the next three days!
10:15–11:15 a.m. — Family Legacy Pictures (tent near the north side of Old Main)
The Office of Alumni and Parent Engagement wants to celebrate the Gustie legacy in your family! Stop by to take a photo with your student(s) and any alumni family members to be potentially featured in the Gustavus magazine and online.
11:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m. — Convocation for New Students and Families (Christ Chapel)
Join us for a ceremonial welcome and presentation of the entering class. Dress is casual. Families should depart from campus following this event in order to give their students time to gather for their first orientation event. Thank you for the support and hard work that made this day possible!
12:45 p.m. — Norelius Hall Section Meet-Up for Lunch (Christ Chapel)
Join your Collegiate Fellow and other class of 2030 section mates to meet one another and create connections. Then, head over to the Evelyn Young Dining Room together.
1:00 p.m. — Pittman Hall Floor Meet-Up for Lunch (Christ Chapel)
Join your Collegiate Fellow and other class of 2030 section mates to meet one another and create connections. Then, head over to the Evelyn Young Dining Room together.
1:00 p.m. — Off-Campus/Commuter/Part-Time PSEO Meet-Up for Lunch (Christ Chapel)
Join a Gustie Greeter and other class of 2030 off-campus students to meet one another, create connections and create connections. Then, head over to the Evelyn Young Dining Room together.
2:00–3:45 p.m. — Residence Hall Room Set-Up
Join your roommate to unpack your belongings, decorate your room, and get settled before your weekend of activities begins.
4:00 p.m. — Orientation Group Meet-Up
Join your Gustie Greeter and other class of 2030 classmates to meet one another, create connections, and review the orientation schedule. Refer to your orientation group room assignment.
5:30 p.m. — Groups 1-17: Dinner with Orientation Group (Evelyn Young Dining Room in Jackson Campus Center)
5:30 p.m. — Groups 18-34: “Can I Kiss You?” (Cec Eckhoff Alumni Hall in Johnson Student Union)
“Can I Kiss You?” is one of the most inclusive and sought-after programs for providing specific how-to skills for teaching consent, respect in relationships, bystander intervention, and addressing sexual assault.

7:45 p.m. — Orientation to Community Living
Norelius Hall: Lund Arena in Lund Athletic Center
Pittman Hall: Cec Eckhoff Alumni Hall in upper level of Johnson Student Union
During this time, you will have the opportunity to meet and interact with the Housing and Residence Life staff and your fellow floor/section residents. You will learn valuable information, discuss issues relevant to living on campus, and be entered into a raffle to win prizes.
9:00–10:00 p.m. — Hypnotist: Reed Tate (Bjorling Recital Hall)
Join CAB for a night of hypnosis and laughter with Reed Tate, a comedic hypnotist, whose show will leave you amazed and astonished.
