LEFLER LECTURE by R. Tripp Evans in conjunction with Grant Wood exhibition at the Hillstrom Museum of ArtOctober 18, 2015 at 3:30–4:45 p.m.

The Hillstrom Museum of Art, with support from the Lefler Lecture Series and the Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies Program of Gustavus Adolphus College, presents a public lecture by R. Tripp Evans, Professor of Art History and Mary L. Heuser Chair in the Arts at Wheaton College, Norton, Massachusetts.

Evans' Lefler Lecture is Sunday, October 18, 2015, starting at 3:30 p.m., in Wallenberg Auditorium, Nobel Hall of Science, Gustavus Adolphus College.

Evans is author of Grant Wood: A Life (2010), described in a review in the New York Times as "absorbing and thoughtful. e In his meticulously researched study, Evans reexamines what is known about Regionalist artist Wood, including rumors circulating even in his lifetime that he was a closeted homosexual, and provides a more nuanced understanding of Wood and his art that, unlike in much of the earlier literature on the artist, does not ignore something as basic as his sexuality. Evans' lecture considers specifically the Wood's lithographs (examples of which are on view in the Hillstrom Museum of Art's current exhibition Grant Wood's Lithographs: A Regionalist Vision Set in Stone) in light of this approach.

As with all exhibitions and programs of the Hillstrom Museum of Art, this lecture is free and open to the public.
