President’s Council on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

The President’s Council for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion is charged with the following: 

  • Develop an articulation of Gustavus vision, expectations, and goals with respect to diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Identify and examine institutional barriers related to diversity, equity, and inclusion associated with Gustavus’ history, values, and structures
  • Identify and examine the evolving best practices in diversity, equity, and inclusion to respect and uphold individual and collective humanity
  • Develop recommendations for improving policies, practices, and programming regarding diversity, equity, and inclusion for the Gustavus community
  • Implement a multi-year “Blueprint for Progress” for Gustavus that will create a more inclusive environment, including development of annual goals and plans for assessment of progress
  • Propose events and initiatives that will enhance community engagement about racial equality, intersectionality, overt and unconscious bias, inclusive campus climate, and other topics of importance to the work of diversity, equity and inclusion
  • Develop a communication plan and report regularly on plans and progress to the Gustavus community and others (as appropriate)
  • Serve as representatives of, advocates for, and liaisons to the stakeholder groups associated with the Council (students/student organizations, faculty, administration, support staff, alumni)
  • Annually review and update this charge and the work of the PCDEI
