Russian Language and
Culture Study
Challenge Curriculum (Starting Fall 2020)

To meet minimum graduation requirements, students in the Challenge Curriculum will complete at least two sequential courses of a non-English language at the college level. You may choose to continue language study beyond the minimum graduation requirements.

If you have no previous experience in Russian, you can fulfill the Non-English Language and Culture Requirement by taking RUS 101 and 102 consecutively. If you have previous experience in this language, guidelines for provisional registration are the following:

1 year of high school – 101
2 years of high school – 102
3 years of high school – 201
4 years of high school – 202

  • If you place in RUS 102, you can fulfill the Non-English Language and Culture Requirement by taking Russian 102 and 201 consecutively (RUS 102 in Spring and RUS 201 in the following Fall).
  • If you place in RUS 201, you can fulfill the Non-English Language and Culture Requirement by taking Russian 201 and 202 consecutively (RUS 201 in Fall and RUS 202 in Spring).
  • If you place above RUS 201, further study requirements will be met in consultation with the Russian division in the Modern Languages, Literatures, and Cultures department.
  • If you have Russian proficiency higher than RUS 202, you can fulfill the requirement by passing an equivalent exam to verify your proficiency at the 202 level or higher.

Please note: You need to earn the minimum grade ("C") to continue on to the next level of Russian class.
