Your Story:  My name is Shelby Roles! I’m from Lakeville, MN. I want to be a doctor because I have had so many privileges and opportunities, and becoming a physician is an excellent way for me to use those gifts to give back to my community! I enjoy playing piano, going on long runs, and Doctor Who. I’m really happy about my decision to attend Gustavus, because I have experienced such a great community here. Without the opportunities I’ve had to learn and serve at Gustavus, I wouldn’t be the person I am today.

Top Five Activities/Experiences: (in no particular order)

• Pre-health January Career Exploration at River's Edge Hospital
• Working at Benedictine nursing home
• Conducting research on campus over the summer
• Studying piano under Esther Wang, the greatest piano instructor ever!
• Volunteering at the Mayo Health Systems Emergency room in Mankato

Advice:

• Make sure you start preparing early! Get involved, connect with professors, and work hard right when you start college!
• Minor in something you really enjoy, even if it has nothing to do with medicine or science.
• Take full advantage of all the opportunities offered here at Gustavus!

Future Plans:

Attending the University of Minnesota- Twin Cities, start Fall 2015.
