Pre-Physical Therapy and Pre-Occupational Therapy students volunteer opportunity at River’s Edge Hospital and Clinic

Deb Mattson, MPT Lead Physical Therapist at River’s Edge Hospital leads a class for patients with Parkinson’s Disease. This class is for those who have completed the LSVT BIG training. The goal is to help maintain and/or improve the functional mobility of those living with Parkinson’s Disease or other neurologic disease.

Volunteer opportunities are available for Fall semester and Spring semester (on pause COVID Spring 2022) and Summer (TBD). The class occurs on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10:15-11:00am. This volunteer opportunity requires a commitment of one or two days a week for an entire semester. For example, a student commits to volunteer every Monday from 10:15-11:00am for Fall semester.

Volunteer Schedule: Monday and/or Wednesday, 10:15-11:00am

Duties:

1. Setting up equipment
2. Assisting patients with exercise plan 3. Cheerleading

Some OT or PT programs may require volunteer or observation hours to be verified with a signed form as part of the admissions process. Lead Physical Therapist Deb Mattson will serve as the site supervisor and will keep a log of your volunteer hours; she will also be the person to verify your hours for application as needed.
