Nick Reiners '15

Name: Nicholas Reiners

Graduating Class: 2015

Major: Biology and Scandinavian Studies

Your Story:

My original interest in medicine comes from my Grandpa, who was a family medicine doctor for many years in my small hometown of Cambridge, MN. I chose Gustavus because my dad went there, it has a strong science reputation, and because of the tennis program. I knew from day one that I wanted to study Biology and get on the pre-med track, but I took a detour along the way and found myself engaged in the field of Scandinavian Studies and Swedish as well. This led to an incredible research opportunity and study abroad experience, so it’s strange how things work out in the end!

Top 5 Activities/Experiences:

  1. Semester abroad in Uppsala, Sweden
  2. Working on a research project (in Swedish) in Karlskoga, Sweden
  3. Playing on the tennis team
  4. Pre-Health January Interim Career Exploration
  5. Working on campus (library, CSL, peer mentoring program, swedish tutor, tennis instructor)

Advice:

  1. "Don’t burn the candle on both ends” AKA don’t get so excited about the future that you forget about the present
  2. Sometimes it just is what it is
  3. Don’t waste the resources available to you because of pride (career center, counseling, advisors, professors, classmates, etc)

Future plans: I am currently scribing for Twin Cities Orthopedics.
