Luke Sandersfeld '15
Name: Luke Sandersfeld
Graduating Class: 2015
Major: Biochemistry and Molecular Biology/Chemistry
Your Story:
I was involved in the Army ROTC through MNSU, Mankato throughout college. I believe that ROTC treated me well and taught many lessons, especially on leadership, that I would not have gotten otherwise. While in college I shadowed many dental professions and dental technicians through the J-Term class I took in my Sophomore year. My Junior J-Term semester I took the Dental Admissions Test. My summer after my Junior year I applied to Dental School and did not get any interviews or accepted into any Dental School. I continued my academic career to become a dentist and applied to dental school after my Senior year at Gustavus. I retook the Dental Admissions Test the summer after my Senior year while I was applying. I received three interviews during my year off and got accepted into the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry. In August 2015 I was very fortunate to receive a full time job (during my year off) at a Dental Lab in Fairmont, MN. I believe with my academics, the Army ROTC and my job at the Dental Lab, I was admitted a place at the U of M School of Dentistry.
Top Five Activities/Experiences: (in no particular order)
- Army ROTC
- Study Buddies
- Research
- Dental Lab Technician (after school)
- Academia
Advice:
Try to think of three things.... you wish you would have know or would encourage others to do....
- GET A JOB AT A DENTAL LAB DURRING YOUR YEAR OFF!
- Get involved in on campus activities. (Especially volunteer activities)
- Join the Army ROTC! (I learned so many Leadership qualities!)
Future Plans: I plan on attending the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry for four years and pending my acceptance to further schooling I will have an United States Army Active Duty status and serve our country as a Dentist in the Army for at least 8 years once I become a dentist.
