Position Title:American Heart Association Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (AHA-SURF)

Role: AHA-SURF fellows are supported by a grant through the American Heart Association which provides a $4,000 stipend over 10 weeks to perform basic science or clinical research relating to cardiovascular disease I was given my own lab project and learned several new experimental methods. We had weekly lab meetings and cardiovascular lectures every Monday. I also shadowed an interventional radiologist and a cardiologist in the medical center and heart institute attached to the college of medicine. At the end of the experience I prepared and presented a poster at an undergraduate poster session followed by the annual Biophysical Society meeting the following spring. I also contributed data to a paper that was being published.
