Literature helps us better understand our lives, ourselves, and the world around us. Encounters with literature develop the concepts of identification, imagination, and empathy. In our increasingly chaotic world, these skills matter deeply. Taking a deep dive into literature from different cultures allows you to both expand your ability to evaluate and discuss the work itself and also better understand what it tells us about the world, our own beliefs and values, and the beliefs and values of others.

At Gustavus, the arts are for everyone. Students can participate in music, theatre, dance, and art regardless of their primary area of study. Whether its ensemble tours from Sweden to Japan or the chance to engage with working artists, dancers, and theatre professionals on campus, Gustavus provides you with the opportunity to flex your creative muscle.

The Ultimate Club provides opportunities for competitive and recreational play in this dynamic sport that emphasizes both athletic excellence and the "spirit of the game." Whether you're new to flying discs or an experienced player, you'll find a welcoming community focused on skill development and fun.

Carol Lagergren is a Visiting Instructor in the Education Department. After working 32 years in K-12 education as a classroom teacher and administrator, she moved to Gustavus and taught for several years focusing on Middle and Secondary School Education courses. She currently supervises and supports student teachers in the Education Program.
