Refer a Future Gustie
The Gustavus Referral Scholarship allows you to nominate current high school juniors or seniors for a $2,000 annual scholarship at Gustavus. Referrals and the student’s application must be received by November 1 of their senior year.
Key Dates for Current Seniors
Students can apply using the Gustavus Application or the Common Application. All fine arts scholarship applications are available in a student’s Applicant Portal.
August 1: Application opens
September 1: Early Action review begins
October 1: FAFSA opens
November 1: Early Action deadline + Referral Scholarship deadline
November 8: Priority deadline for fine arts scholarship applications
December 1: Rolling admission review begins
March 15: Priority deadline for filing the FAFSA
May 1: National College Decision Day
Encourage Students to Apply
Here’s what makes our process simple and student-friendly:
- Free: Applying to Gustavus as a first-year student is always free using the Common App or Gustavus Application.
- Optional Essay and Test Score Submission: For over 15 years, we’ve let students decide whether or not they want to submit their standardized test scores as part of their application.
- Automatic Academic Scholarship Consideration: Students are automatically considered for academic scholarships when they apply for admission.
- Quick Decision: Beginning Sept. 1, within two weeks of completing an application, notify students of their admission decision and any eligible academic scholarships.
- One Stop Shop: Our Applicant Portal is the place for viewing admission decisions and scholarships, updating materials, and scheduling a visit.

Transferring Credits to Gustavus
Students work hard to earn college credit. That’s why we accept:
- Up to 64 transfer credits
- The Minnesota Transfer Curriculum
- An Associate of Arts (AA) degree, fulfilling most general education requirements
- A 4 or above on AB or IB tests
Students can explore how coursework transfers using Transferology.
