Associate Vice President of Marketing and Communication in Marketing and Communication

Barb Larson Taylor, originally from Bloomington, MN, earned her BA from Gustavus Adolphus College in 1993 with a major in organizational management.  Upon graduation, she worked at Wells Fargo and served as a Class Agent for Gustavus.

In 1994 when Cecil Eckhoff retired and Randall Stuckey was promoted to become director of Alumni Relations, Barb returned to her alma mater to serve as assistant director.

In 2008, Barb took the position of assistant to the President for special projects.  The three most significant projects she has worked on include serving as executive director for Commission Gustavus 150, main point person for the Sesquicentennial 18 months of celebration, and the coordinator for the National Advisory Boards.

From 2014-2015, Barb served as Director of the Center for Servant Leadership.  Following the restructuring of the Center for Servant Leadership, she starting working in the Office of Marketing and Communication as senior director of institutional events. In 2020, she was promoted to Associate Vice President of Marketing and Communication. in this capacity, she oversees the marketing and logistics for major college events such as the Nobel Conference, Christmas in Christ Chapel, the MAYDAY! Peace Conference, and Commencement.

Beginning March 2020 and the COVID-19 pandemic, she serves as chair of the campus COVID response leadership team. Barb brought together 125 campus representatives to create 12 action response teams with the goal of keeping the Gustavus community safe, disseminating accurate COVID information, and determining risk assessment protocols for the College. She will work in this capacity through the COVID pandemic, serving as liaison among College, community and state stakeholders to create effective testing and safety protocols for students and staff.

Barb has served as co-adviser for the Guild of St. Lucia since 1996.

In the fall of 1996 she became head resident of Wahlstrom Hall and in 2002 moved to Pittman Hall where she served as a head resident until 2012.

Barb has two sons, Kirby and Anders.
