Lois PetersonEmeriti
Teaching in a liberal arts environment has allowed me to explore the broad areas of interest I enjoy. After graduating with a degree in Art Education from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse I taught art in public schools for 7 years before entering Graduate School to earn an MFA in Ceramics/Drawing with a minors in Museum Science and Art History from Texas Tech University. After being a visiting assistant art professor for two years at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington, I accepted a position at Gustavus. My recent art consist of large scale figurative and abstract drawings imploying a range of drawing mediums, but predominantly done in oil sticks. Currently I teach Studio Foundations, Art Education Methods and the Visual Experience, a curriculum II course, focused on art making in the 21st Century. My personal studio is located in Saint Peter, Mn. My work has been exhibited both regionally and nationally in galleries and art centers. In recent years I have taught workshops and courses in Italy and South Africa where I value the interaction with people from various cultures and the enrichment we receive from the immersion in global topics. I love the Upper Mississippi River Valley and frequently kayak it's backwaters, looking at the natural world and its ability to connect all living things.
