President Cabinet Summary

Cabinet Meeting Summary November 27, 2018

1. The policy requires investigators seeking external funding from any government entity, or any other entity that has implemented these federal standards, to disclose significant financial interests that reasonably appear to be related to their institutional responsibilities when applying for grant funds, as well as during the award period.

3. Discussion was held regarding future budget planning.

4. Members discussed potential topics for the February 2019 Board meeting strategic discussion session.

Risk Management Minute...The Scoop about Snow Shoveling: here are some tips to help you get a handle on safe shoveling. 1. Take it easy. Snow shoveling is a weight-lifting exercise that raises your heart rate and blood pressure. Warm up before starting the job and stretch before and after shoveling. Avoid shoveling after eating or while smoking. 2. If possible, shovel fresh snow. It is easier to shovel than wet, packed-down snow. 3. Push the snow forward rather than lifting it out of the way; pick up only small amounts when needed. Your back will thank you. 3. As with any lifting activity, use your legs, not your back. Your legs should be bent with your back straight. Bend and "sit" into the movement, allowing your large muscle groups to do most of the work. 4. Never work to the point of exhaustion. Take frequent breaks. If your chest feels tight, stop immediately. 5. Dress as you would for any outdoor activity in layers. Take extra precautions for keeping hands and feet warm and shovel safely this winter.

New Employee Service Awards Program... Thank you to everyone who took the time to respond to Human Resources' recent survey about the current service awards program at Gustavus. We were excited to see such a huge response from all of you. Based on those survey results, we feel that the next iteration of the service awards program will fall in alignment with the needs/wants of our campus community. Over 80 percent of the respondents were in favor of a new system that will allow employees to choose their own gifts. The Office of Human Resources will begin rolling out our new program this winter. Thank you for your input and we look forward to working with you, during these very special moments in your career at Gustavus.
