The Gustavus Department of Theatre and Dance is excited to be partnering with the Twin Cities based theatre company Ten Thousand Things to bring their unique production of As You Like It by William Shakespeare to Gustavus for one night only. To escape death, our heroine, her best friend, and one of Shakespeare’s funniest fools flee to the forest. Released from the court’s conventions, they discover earnest shepherds and ironic aristocrats – along with joy and forgiveness. Soon, closed hearts open, love transforms, and community takes root.
Ten Thousand Things is a professional theater company based in the Twin Cities, with a unique model. For half of their performances, they travel out into various communities and are hosted as the guests of people in elder care facilities, shelters, programs for adults with disabilities, carceral facilities, treatment centers, and more. They always perform with all the lights on, in the round, with live music, and with props and costumes that easily travel with them, so everyone can be in the audience for the same wonderful art.
Free to attend and no ticket is required.
