I'm Not For Sale: Slavery Past and Present2011 Building Bridges Conference

We invite you to join us for the 16th annual Building Bridges Conference, "I'm Not For Sale: Slavery Past and Present," taking place Saturday, March 12, 2011 at Gustavus Adolphus College. This student-initiated, student-led diversity conference will provide a rewarding opportunity to engage in important dialogue as Building Bridges places a spotlight on slavery and emphasizes what students can do to help. In particular, we will discuss the effects of the slave trade from a historical perspective leading up to modern-day slavery.

Building on tradition, this conference continues to be the platform for students to address matters of global significance in a proactive and informative way. For this reason, we are inviting Dr. Joy (Leary) DeGruy author of Post-Traumatic Slave Syndrome as the keynote speaker.

Supplementing the keynote speech will be a series of workshops to provide conference attendees with an array of opportunities to learn about the different aspects of modern-day slavery. The highlighted workshop presentation will be given by Joy Friedman, a Minnesota native who will give a personal testimony of her experience as a victim of sexual exploitation.
