Dean of Students Office

The Dean of Students Office oversees programs and services that support students' education and development both inside and outside the classroom.

Members of the Dean's staff guide, support, and challenge students in taking full advantage of a Gustavus education. They also provide advice, support and assistance to students and student groups and respond to inquiries from students, parents, and others about College policies and procedures.

Services

  • First Stop: Students and parents often will find where to go for help by checking out First Stop, which is a hub of the most commonly used resources.
  • Parents and Families: Parents and families are an important support system for students. Here is information to assist parents in helping their student navigate college. Parents
  • Student Crisis Support Resources: The Dean of Students Office is often involved in assisting students getting resources they need during a crisis situation. We are here to help you.
  • Student Assistance Grants for Emergencies: Gustavus has emergency funding available from the State of Minnesota to assist and support students who encounter an unforeseen financial emergency or catastrophic event. These grants are not intended to be used for routine expenses or as a supplement to a student’s education funding sources. 
  • Medical Leave of Absence: A medical leave of absence is a period of time when a student is not enrolled in classes but typically intends to re-enroll. It is granted to students who need to step away from their current academic experience for the remainder of the semester in order to focus more intensely on their physical or mental health.
