Globalizing Course ContentCenter for International and Cultural Education
Globalizing course content can further encourage participation and a positive climate for international and multilingual students.
- Require research paper bibliographies to include a certain number of international sources
- Add required or optional course readings that take an international perspective on the topic
- Craft discussion questions and activities that invite students to draw on their own backgrounds and/or travel experiences
- Ask students to examine case studies beyond the U.S.
- Link students to lectures and podcasts from international sources
- Find out what other languages your students speak and/or study, and link them to materials on the subject in those languages
This page draws from and is inspired by Shawna Shapiro's faculty development workshop on supporting multilingual/international students at Macalester College, summer 2018.
