As you begin your Gustavus journey, there are a few important steps to help you be ready for a smooth and successful start. From submitting forms and selecting housing to registering for classes, this page will walk you through everything you need to know. Don’t worry—we’ve organized it all in one place, so you can take it step by step.

Now it’s time to fill out lots of forms. Let’s get started!

Step 1: Complete the FAFSA

The priority deadline to file this federal form and be considered for the Gustavus $2,000 FAFSA Filer Award is March 15. After this date, financial aid packages are awarded on a rolling basis. Use the Gustavus school code 002353 on your FAFSA.

Step 2: Pay your deposit

Before you can do anything else, you must first pay your enrollment deposit.

Our systems sync overnight. After paying your deposit, please check back the following day to continue.

Step 3: Create your user name

To access forms and do pretty much anything, you need to select a Gustavus email address and activate your account.

Step 4: Request your housing

Housing applications must be submitted online for full consideration and housing preference priority. Please see the Incoming/New Student Housing page for the most current information about the housing process and dates. New student housing forms open April 1. Your housing assignment and roommate will be shared in July.

Step 5: Submit your class registration preferences

Head over to the New Student Registration page to learn about class registration, placement exams, transferring credit, and other important details regarding your academic transition to Gustavus.

Step 6: Pay your bill

Fall semester payments will be due August 15. This bill will include one-half (50 percent) of the tuition, room fee, meal plan fee, and the full amount of fees minus one-half (50 percent) of your financial aid package. A fee statement will be mailed to your home address in July.

Log into your Gustavus Applicant Portal to view the Enrollment Checklist. It includes everything you need to do before arriving on campus, including housing, class registration, student information, and financial aid. Here you can submit forms and ensure you’re meeting important deadlines. Throughout the summer more checklist items will be added, so be sure to check your Applicant Portal regularly. We'll notify you when new forms are live.

Accommodations—The process for making a request is varied depending on the area on campus best positioned to meet the need. This is a good place to start!

Frequently Asked Questions

Gustie Gear-Up! on June 16, 17, or 18 is your opportunity to personally receive, review, and adjust your class schedule with an academic advisor, meet your fellow classmates, and get your final questions answered prior to moving in this fall. You can learn more about Gustie Gear-Up! on the New Student Registration page. Students who do not attend Gustie Gear-Up! will receive an email (sent to their Gustavus email) in late June with instructions on how to access and review their class schedule. That email will also include information about an optional opportunity in July to virtually review and adjust their schedule with a Gustavus advisor.

Be sure to request to have your official college transcript(s) and/or AP or IB test scores sent directly to Gustavus from the institution(s) that granted the credit.

It is not enough to have these classes listed on your high school transcript. You must request that the official college transcript(s) and/or test scores be sent directly to Gustavus.

Sending transcripts and scores as soon as possible upon completion will help us identify if/how your credits will transfer.

MyGustavus—the web-based system that allows Gustavus students to access important academic information—provides you the ability to grant a parent and/or others access to information on MyGustavus. You can grant your parents access to your grades, class schedule, student account statement, and more. Access granted is completely controlled by and at the discretion of the student. First-year students will have an opportunity to move to campus, connect with your Orientation Group, meet your floor-mates, and participate in a weekend of events. The Gustavus New Student Orientation program helps you to transition to Gustavus and establish a sense of belonging here.
