Why study Geology at Gustavus?
Students in the Gustavus Geology major strive to discern the history of Earth and its life forms, understand our changing global systems, and discover and preserve natural resources. It emphasizes field, laboratory, and analytical research at every step of the program. You will work with a close-knit community of faculty and students as you study landscapes, climate, natural hazards, mountain building, and the evolution and extinction of life. Students enhance their education by joining department field trips and seeking research opportunities in Minnesota and beyond. In addition, recent geology majors have studied abroad in places like Great Britain, Australia, New Zealand, Denmark, and Sweden. As a Geology major, you will graduate with the skills to enter a number of career paths including environmental consulting, resource management, and public-sector earth science research.
