Jane Lalim ’95

Alumni and Administrator

Associate Director in Academic Support Center

Jane Lalim began working in what's now called the Center for Academic Resources and Enhancement (CARE) at Gustavus Adolphus College in August of 2000 when it was known as the Advising Center and then the Academic Support Center.  Come visit CARE on the lower level in the newly renovated Anderson Hall.

Prior to joining the administration at Gustavus, Jane served as the Interim Director of the Learning Center at Minnesota State University, Mankato.  Jane started her professional career as a kindergarten teacher, but after having the opportunity to supervise some student teachers, she quickly realized that working with college-age students was her calling and shifted her graduate work to reflect that new direction.

At Gustavus, Jane enjoys mentoring students in programs connected with the Student Life division, serving as the academic advisor to several students who are undecided about their majors, and educating students about effective study strategies and how to create their four-year plans.  Expanding the Peer Academic Coaching (PAC) program in the new CARE office is a goal.

Personally, Jane enjoys travel with her husband, Tom, at every available opportunity to both foreign and domestic locals.  Jane's other hobbies include kayaking, spending time at the lake cabin, and watching movies or attending theatre, music, or sporting events.  Two yellow Labrador Retrievers named Taffy and Sage (the puppy) keep Jane and Tom very busy.

In addition to keeping her K-9 grade teaching licenses current, Jane has maintained her annual membership with the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) since 1998.
