Michael JorgensenEmeriti
Emeritus Professor Michael Jorgensen taught applied voice and other music-related courses at Gustavus from 1991-2019. Highlights of his performing career include fifteen years as a bass with the VocalEssence Ensemble Singers of Minnesota; soloing in world premiere works by composers Steve Heitzeg and Libby Larsen; singing the solo An die Musik by Schubert on Garrison Keillor's Prairie Home Companion; singing the first public performance of Dominick Argento's Three Sonnets of Petrarch; and soloing in the European premiere of the Stephen Paulus Holocaust oratorio To Be Certain of the Dawn. He treasures his performances with his wife Bonnie, especially the works of the Norwegian-American composer Theodora Cormontan (1840-1922). His happiest memories from Gustavus are the lessons he shared with wonderful Gustavus students and helping them find their voice.
