2013 Friends of Music TourChoral Festival in Salzburg

Overview

Imagine being part of a large choir singing a Mozart Mass in the Salzburg Cathedral. Here's an opportunity to do just that. Gustavus Friends of Music has arranged for a choir tour to Munich, Salzburg, Vienna and Prague over 13 days next summer, June 23 – July 5, 2013.

Singers and non-singers alike are welcome.  For those of you who were part of any of the Gustavus choirs, are part of a community or church choir or maybe you simply love to sing; there’s a spot in the choir for you. Dr. Greg Aune will rehearse the alumni prior to the trip and travel with them to Europe. 

We know that choir members may have non-singers who wish to travel with them and there are Gusties who love music but don’t want to sing. No problem!  There is space available for non-performers and a promise of coffee on the Marktplatz during rehearsal time.

Motzart International Choral Festival. The festival will feature a large festival chorus under the direction of Dr. Brad Holmes, Director of Choral Programs at Millikin University, performing an eclectic selection of American and Western Classical works, as well as Mozart.  Prof. Janos Czifra, director of the Salzburg Dom will conduct Mozart’s Mass no. 15 in C Major, “Coronation” accompanied by the Salzburger Domorchester.

Program Leader

Dr. Gregory Aune, Associate Professor of Music at Gustavus Adolphus College. Gregory J. Aune, D.M.A. is currently in his seventeenth year as the Conductor of The Gustavus Choir. Dr. Aune will help rehearse the alumni who will be participating in the Mozart Choral Festival and will be traveling with the tour group. 

Activity Level

Moderately active.  This tour will require a lot of walking, up to 4- 6 miles per day, often over uneven ground.  Elevators are not always available so there will be stairs to climb. Sometimes stairs and pathways will not have handrails. You should be ready to keep pace with an active group of traveling companions.
