President Cabinet Meeting Summary
October 29, 2019, Cabinet Meeting Summary
1. Discussion was held regarding an updated draft of a proposed progressive discipline policy. Members approved the document. The Board of Trustees will be asked to review/approve this all-college policy at its February meeting.
2. Members discussed possible repercussions for employee failure to complete mandated training.
3. Members discussed materials related to weather/emergency essential employees. Memos will be sent to those employees considered “essential.” Members also recommended including “essential employee” language in employees’ job descriptions, when appropriate.
4. Discussion was held regarding the annual Yuletide Breakfast hosted by the Scandinavian Studies Department, usually held in early December.
5. Vice President Kowaleski briefly reviewed the FY20 budget process and asked members to complete a budget request explanation form for their respective division by November 29. Since minor suggestions were made for additions to the form, Kowaleski will update the template and send it to Cabinet members.
6. Members approved the Cabinet Covenant with the agreement that the Cabinet will review the document on an annual basis at the Summer Cabinet Retreat.
7. Discussion was held regarding priority for future capital projects, including the music building, Christ Chapel, and residence halls.

Spooky Campus Clean-up!... Please join the Environmental Action Coalition (EAC) this Sunday, November 3, for a spooky campus clean-up before we are covered in snow! We will meet at 12 p.m. in the Courtyard Cafe, head out to do some pick-up around campus, and meet back around 1 p.m. for a pizza lunch (thank you, Dining Service!). Bags and gloves will be provided, and we encourage you to wear a costume! All are welcome!
Christmas in Christ Chapel - Tickets Going Fast...Plans are already well underway for Christmas in Christ Chapel, happening December 5-8. New this year is that the opening night will be on Thursday and the last service will be on Sunday afternoon. Like last year, guests will select specific reservable seats in Christ Chapel at the time of ticket purchase. There will no longer be general admission seating. Christmas in Christ Chapel Volunteers Needed... Ushers Needed for Christmas in Christ Chapel at all five services to help host 1,000 attendees. Help is needed from 6-7:45 p.m. Thursday December 5, 6-7:45 p.m. Friday, December 6, 2-3:45 p.m. and 6-7:45 p.m. Saturday, December 7 and 2-3:45p.m. Sunday, December 8. A Royal Affair - Almost Sold Out ...This is your last chance to get tickets for the biennial A Royal Affair fundraiser happening Saturday, November 9 at the JW Marriott Hotel - Mall of America. Funds raised will fund scholarships for first-generation college students with high academic performance and significant economic need, and strengthen the Gustavus library endowment. Looking for something to do during Spring Break?...The Community Engagement Center is looking for Gustavus faculty and staff to be trip advisers for upcoming Habitat for Humanity volunteer trips during spring break (April 4-11). This is an exceptional way for employees to grow in community engagement, professional development, and to get to know a fantastic group of students. Trip adviser guidelines are posted on the Community Engagement website. There is no cost to participate and all employees are eligible (see guidelines for approvals needed). Applications are available here: Spring Break Trip Adviser Application (and on the CEC website) and must be submitted by November 8, 2019. Community Engagement Center staff and campus Habitat for Humanity board representatives will review applications and select the individuals who meet the selection criteria. Director of Lifelong Learning Opening... First Lutheran Church, Saint Peter, invites applications for a full-time position of Director of Lifelong Learning. This position is full time (40 hours per week; salary/benefits commensurate with experience) and reports directly to the senior pastor. Obituaries
Aaron Bernard Everett, Emeritus Professor of French, passed away on October 27, 2019. A full obituary can be found online. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 5 at the Church of St. Peter, 1801 Broadway Ave, Saint Peter. Visitation will be at the church at 10 a.m.
