Faculty/Staff Activities and Student Achievements
Elizabeth Johnson '14 and Kathi Tunheim (Economics/Management), published an article, "Understanding the Experiences of Professional Women Leaders Living and Working in Sweden," in the Advances in Developing Human Resources Journal. Kathi and Dr. Susan Madsen, Utah Valley University, presented a professional development workshop on "Using Innovative Reflection Practices in Management Education," at the Academy of Management in Anaheim, CA, in August. Finally, Kathi presented to the Women's Leadership Network at Medica, a health insurance company, based in Minnetonka, Minn., in late August.
Henry MacCarthy (Theatre & Dance) was the guest stage director for Opera Omaha's production of Opera Outdoors at Turner Park in Omaha, NE this past Friday, September 9. The production featured soprano Leah Partridge, tenor Jonathan Boyd, and the Opera Omaha Chorus and Children's Chorus, conducted by Aaron Breid. The events was attended by over 2,000 guests.

News and Announcements
Mandatory training requirements...In campus mail you recently received an updated copy of the brochure entitled “2016-2017 Faculty and Staff Guide to Helping Students Who Have Experienced Sexual Misconduct or Harassment.” Included was a letter with information about the new mandatory training procedure.
Please be reminded that all College employees must participate in this required training every academic year. This year, the required Title IX annual training and post-training assessment must be completed before Friday, October 3, 2016. Many employees are Campus Security Authorities (CSAs) under the Clery Act in addition to being Title IX responsible employees. Those employees will need to complete both required courses.
If you did not receive the email with your username and password for online training (sent August 23rd), or need your training re-set (for anyone who does not pass the post-test with at least 80% in 3 attempts), please contact Lisa Octigan, eoctigan@gustavus.edu.

Tuition Benefits Explained...Kirk Carlson and Richard Aune will provide information about admission, tuition benefit, and tuition exchange options, Thurs., Oct. 13, from 12 to 1 p.m. in the Dive. There will be a short presentation with time for questions after. Feel free to bring your lunch. All employees with current high school juniors or seniors are encouraged to attend. United Way Campaign...Join us in helping the Greater Mankato Area United Way kick off their 2017 Campaign.
- Information about all of the GREAT things our area UNITED WAY does for the St. Peter and Mankato communities. We will hear from President Becky Bergman as well as area United Way President Barb Kaus.
- The opportunity to throw a paper airplane off the third floor balcony in Torrey Atrium in Beck Academic Hall. (Bring $1 for each airplane…all proceeds go to the United Way). Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program...As Gustavus Human Resources strives to educate our employees on various benefits either through the college or externally. We would like to make you aware of a federal program called The Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program. This program forgives the remaining balance on your Direct Loans after 120 monthly payments have been made under a repayment plan if you are working on a full-time basis for a qualifying employer. Gustavus is a qualifying employer because we are a not-for-profit organization that is tax exempt under Section 501(c)(3). More information about this benefit is online.
College Accreditation Committee Member Needed...We seek one support staff representative to serve on the College Accreditation Committee. "Gustie Newswire" Webpage Launched... The Office of Marketing and Communication has a new online news source for members of the campus community and news media. Congregational Outreach
Retreats ...The Office of Church Relations will host a day confirmation retreat for St. John's Lutheran Church of Northfield on Sat., Sept. 17. The retreat program is a resource offered to ELCA congregations that are also members of the Gustavus Association of Congregations.

Obituaries
A memorial service for Mary Gover, wife of Tom Gover (Professor Emeritus in Chemistry) will take place on Sat. Sept. 24 at 10:30 am in the chapel of the Cremation Society of Minnesota, 7110 France Avenue S. Following the service a reception and luncheon will take place at Gramercy Park Lake Shore senior cooperative at 6711 Lake Shore Drive in Richfield.
John Jacks, 87, father of Colleen Jacks (Biology), died on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016. Services were held on Wed. Sept 14. His full obituary can be read online.

Girls Night Out in St. Peter...On Thurs., Oct. 6, join the St. Peter Area Chamber of Commerce and over 40 local businesses in celebrating Girls Night Out, an evening planned by women for women and sponsored by the St. Peter business community. Gather a group of friends and visit your favorite local shops to take advantage of special gifts, promotions, and grab bags.

Trinity Lutheran Church (ELCA, St. Peter) is searching for someone to serve as Church Secretary. Tasks include but are not limited to serving as the office receptionist, publishing bulletins and announcements as well as the monthly newsletter and the annual report, providing administrative and clerical support to members of staff as well as the church council, committees, teams and other volunteers of the congregation. Inside Gustavus is a newsletter for Gustavus Adolphus College employees produced by the Office of Marketing and Communication. It is published weekly during the academic year (except during the week of Thanksgiving, the Christmas break, Touring Week, and the Spring and Easter breaks). Anyone may submit items by filling out an online submission form. While online submissions are preferred, items may also be submitted typewritten on a letter-sized sheet of paper.
