The Season of Giving...The Staff Personnel Committee has begun gearing up for our traditional Staff Holiday Party on Tuesday, Dec. 22. This gathering is always an exciting time as we try to incorporate the spirit of giving. One of the ways we do this is by providing door prize drawings. Although we have a small budget for purchasing items to give away, we traditionally rely on departments around campus to donate any items as they feel appropriate. Donations may range from a gift card for a campus service to complimentary gifts received from outside vendors to handmade/homemade items that reflect your skill/talent that could be passed on to fellow co-workers as a wonderful gift.
In the next few weeks, please watch for items that may come into your office/department and/or items you might already have that you would be willing to donate as a gift. To make a contribution, please contact or send items to Jeannie Peterson (jpeter13@gustavus.edu) in the library, Jean Noren (jnoren2@gustavus.edu) in the president’s office, or Anna Mae Barklow (abarklow@gustavus.edu) in custodial service. Your generosity and thoughtful consideration during this Season of Giving is greatly appreciated.
Campus Happenings
Angel Tree Giving Opportunity...The Angel Tree is a project designed to give children little something extra in their stocking or under the tree. The children that will receive these gifts will not have many presents at Christmas. Please take a tag from the tree located in the Johnson Student Union. On the back of the tag you will find the gender and age of the child as well as a short “wish list”. Not all items need to be purchased, please do as your budget allows, but $25 and under is appropriate.
We ask that after you have purchased your gift for this special child, you return the wrapped gift with the Angel Tag to the CBSL Office in the Johnson Student Union (Room 222) no later than Wednesday, Dec. 16th. If for some reason you are unable to purchase a gift, please return the Angel Tag to the tree as soon as possible.
Thank you for helping make this Christmas a little brighter for one child.
Donate to the St. Peter Food Shelf during Holiday Parties...Please bring non-perishable food items and/or monetary donations for the St. Peter Food Shelf to one of the employee Holiday Parties. The College will again this year offer to match cash donations up to $500. In addition, Professor Kathy Lund Dean and Dan Dean have offered a generous new challenge. They will also match cash donations up to $500. These two matching gifts mean we have the potential to raise $1500 or more for the St. Peter Food Shelf this year!
Faculty and Administration Holiday Party - Monday, Dec. 21, 2015, 4-6 p.m., Alumni Hall
Support Staff Holiday Luncheon - Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2015, 11 a.m. - 1 p.m., Alumni Hall
If you are unable to attend your holiday celebration, please feel free to drop off food items or monetary donations to either Jenny Tollefson (Confer/Vickner Halls) or Nancy Petrich (Physical Plant).
If you haven't already done so, please RSVP to Jean Noren (faculty/administrator) or Lisa Octigan (support staff).
Health and Wellness Class...The Gustavus community (students, faculty, and staff) has an opportunity to get their new year off to a great start. The Am I Hungry program teaches mindful eating skills and empowers participants to relearn to use their natural ability to eat just the right amount of food. Participants are not given rigid rules to follow; instead it is a journey of self-discovery as to why we choose to eat what we eat. Class discussion involves eating what our bodies need and want, exercising for our mind and bodies, and mindful eating skills.
Classes will meet Monday and Wednesday from 2:30 – 3:30 pm, beginning Jan. 4 and running through Wednesday, Jan. 27. Classes will be located in the 49er room in the Campus Center. The cost of the program is discounted to $25.00 (a retail value of $45.00 for materials) which covers the cost of the book “Eat What You Love, Love What You Eat, How to Break Your Eat-Repent-Repeat Cycle” and the workbook required for class.
If you are interested in participating please contact George Elliott at gelliott@gustavus.edu by Dec. 15th.
