Faculty Development Workshop Fit for Public Consumption: Strategies for Sharing Your Studies on Learning Friday November 2nd, 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the St. Peter room.

Both products of the Carnegie Scholars program, Michael Smith of Ithaca College and Trish Ferrett of Carleton College have designed this workshop to help faculty transform their investigations of teaching and learning into the kind of scholarship that can shape both institutional and disciplinary practice (and carry real weight in tenure and promotion decisions). There are manifold possibilities for “going public” with your work, some of them unconventional but powerful.

Michael Smith is an Assistant Professor of History and Environmental Studies at Ithaca College and a 2005-6 Carnegie Scholar at the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. He is currently working on a book with other Carnegie Scholars tentatively titled “Citizenship Across the Curriculum: How the Scholarship of Learning Validates Citizenship Education.” He is also working on developing strategies for integrating the scholarship of learning into the accreditation process.

Trish Ferrett is a Professor of Chemistry and Director of the Interdisciplinary Science & Math Initiative at Carleton College and a 2005-6 Carnegie Scholar at the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. She has presented and published on her investigations of integrative learning in the sciences and helped initiate more evidence-based approaches to assessing student learning in science courses at Carleton and other institutions.

This workshop, a part of the John S. Kendall Center for Engaged Learning’s Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SOTL) initiative, is supported by funding from the Bush Grant.

Gustavus Adolphus College is once again a Best College in The Princeton Review’s college ranking guidebook, The Best 371 Colleges. Also, Gustavus again made the Best Campus Food list. These annual rankings are based solely on input from college students.

Fringe Festival Features Gustavus Theatre and Dance

Since its founding, the Minnesota Fringe Festival has featured the work of hundreds of Gustavus Theatre & Dance students, alumni and faculty. This year is no exception, with a number of performances by alumni and current students across the 11-day festival.
