Back by popular demand, Courageous Conversations - Part II will help employees learn a new model of conflict/resolution approved by the Cabinet to address concerns and bring more peace to one’s life.

Psychological First Aid: Helping Others in Times of Stress

How people feel and react to stress varies from individual to individual. What may not be stressful for you may be stressful for someone else. During this course, we will discuss how people react to stress in the aftermath of disaster and what you can do to provide comfort, care, and support.

New York Actress, playwright, and refugee advocate, Kim Schultz, has been leading Authentic Living sessions for organizations across the globe for over 20 years. Now she’s coming home to Gustavus where her sister attended and Kim grew up. Kim will inspire how to bring your authentic self to everything around you. You don’t have to be in a leadership position to learn how to apply her energetic session into your life!

Refugee Advocate and Writer
Presenter: Kim Schultz
Refugee Advocate and writer, Kim Schultz, will be sharing her novel, No Place Called Home, which is a beautiful and funny story about Kim’s time in Syria, Jordan, and Lebanon as an American playwright hired by the New York-based NGO, Intersections International. Kim and her fellow artists interviewed hundreds of Iraqis, heard their stories, and shared them with an American audience in hopes of creating awareness and change through the artist’s eyes. Kim will provide commentary on her experience and the first 40 attendees will receive a free copy of her book. Kim will return to Gustavus in March to perform her play, which had a successful New York City run and the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. as part of World Refugee Day.

Connecting the Dots: Helping your Student Employees get Career Ready!
Presenters: Laura Diaz and Jill VanOsdol '10
Learn how to incorporate the Career Readiness Competencies from the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) into your supervision of student employees. We will walk you through the competencies and provide examples of how to formally and informally integrate questions and tasks into your everyday conversations and projects with students.
AED, First Aid, and CPR Training

Would you know what to do in a cardiac, breathing or first aid emergency? The right answer could help you save a life. With an emphasis on hands-on learning, this First Aid, CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) and AED (automated external defibrillator) training course will give you the skills to save a life. Gustavus Adolphus College is proud to be recognized as one of the first colleges in Minnesota to be designated as a Heart Safe Community.
