St. Lucia Festival

Overview

Celebrate the St. Lucia Festival on Thursday, December 10 at 11:30 a.m. in Christ Chapel.

The Festival of St. Lucia begins the Christmas season in Sweden. As a school founded by Swedish immigrants, Gustavus keeps the tradition alive through this annual celebration. Six sophomore women, who exemplify the qualities of courageous leadership, service to others, strength of character, compassion, and light, are chosen as the Court of St. Lucia. 

The campus festival includes the crowning of St. Lucia, a retelling of the Lucia legend, an introduction of the Lucia court wearing traditional St. Lucia costumes with children of employees who serve as star children, and a reception of Swedish-inspired treats and Lucia inspired crafts and activities.
