General Education at GustavusEasier Advising Processes
Simplified Advising
- Advising Day: Gustavus continues its faculty advisor tradition. We are excited to offer Advising Day each semester (next up: April 16, Spring 2024). Classes are out, and the day is packed with faculty advisor meetings, major exploration, Career Development insights, and making the most of your Gustavus experience.
- Smooth major declarations: No more running around! Fall 2024 brings an electronic form for declaring your major. Say goodbye to the hassle of tracking down signatures.
- Farewell to the minor advisor requirement: It's all about simplifying the process – we're dropping the minor advisor requirement to make declaring a minor more accessible. You can always talk with a professor in the department or program about your minor if you have questions.
Why the change?
- Student voices matter: We heard you – finding a minor advisor shouldn't be a roadblock to declaring a minor, and you don't think running around campus to gather signatures on a piece of paper to declare your major is the best use of your time.
- Student experince is our priority: We cherish the advisor-student bond. Running around for major declaration signatures? Not so much. The new electronic form streamlines the process, eliminating confusion among different majors.
What do I need to do?
- Show up for an impactful day: Advising Day is a dedicated moment to connect, plan, and explore next steps. While not everyone may snag an advising appointment on the day, it's designed to make scheduling easier, bringing departments and offices across campus together to guide you on your Gustavus journey.
