The Challenge Curriculum

First Term Seminar (FTS)

The First Term Seminar is a signature element of the Gustavus Challenge Curriculum.

FTS Requirement

As part of their first semester course schedule, students enroll in one course designated as FTS-100. The FTS professor will serve as the first-year academic advisor. 

FTS Mission and Learning Outcomes

The FTS is a small, discussion-based course. FTS provides an excellent foundation of our Challenge Curriculum by introducing students to college-level expectations for critical thinking and written and oral communication.

Each FTS carries a WRIT (writing in the first year) designation. FTS learning outcomes can be found at:
