Applying under our Early Action admission plan can provide many benefits for interested students, but requires that you pay careful attention to the timeline and requirements of the program. If you have questions about the process, please contact your Admission Counselor for more information.
Why apply Early Action?
Intended for students who consider Gustavus one of their top college choices, Early Action applicants will get an admission decision by November 15, participate in an early scholarship round, and even submit need-based financial aid information by November 1. If you complete everything on schedule, you'll get your expected financial aid package before January 1, 2017. This allows you to make your college decision earlier, submit your deposit, and begin planning for your time at Gustavus!
Although you have all the information you need to make your decision before most other students, Early Action is a non-binding admission program, which means that you don't have to make your college decision until May 1, 2017. That being said, making your enrollment deposit earlier means that you'll have better first-year housing priority and will be able to tell everyone that you're a Gustie!
Early Action Requirements
To be considered an Early Action applicant, you must complete each step listed below by November 1, 2016.
International early action applicants must complete each step listed on the International Admission page.
2. Submit all supporting materials for the application, including your high school transcript and official ACT or SAT test scores (optional).
3. Complete the FAFSA by November 1 if you would like to be considered for need-based financial aid.
4. Apply for talent-based scholarships by November 1, 2016 if you're interested in music, theatre, dance, art, or speech.
Early Action Timeline
September 15: Scholarship Applications go live
November 1: All materials are due, including the application and supporting materials, completed scholarship applications, and the FAFSA
November 15: Receive admission decision
November 19: Fall Scholarship Day for President's, fine arts, and speech scholarship finalists
January 1: Financial aid package sent to admitted Early Action students
If you decide to attend Gustavus, your enrollment deposit is due by May 1, 2017, with higher housing priority going to students who deposit earlier.
The Gustavus fall scholarship round is reserved exclusively for Early Action students, so we strongly encourage you to complete your scholarship applications by November 1. This means starting early, because music, speech, theatre & dance, and art scholarships require a recommendation to be completed by a conductor, coach, or teacher who is familiar with your work in those areas. If you apply Early Action but decide to wait until the spring round to apply for talent-based scholarships, your financial aid award may be reclassified to reflect scholarship changes. Please see the talent-based scholarship page for more information.
