The mission of the Clobal China Connection shall be to increase the understanding of the Chinese culture between Chinese students and students from other countries, to help disseminate the merits of the Chinese culture. The Clobal China Connection shall also assist Chinese students at Gustavus Adolphus College in various aspects of life, and seek to establish relations between Chinese students at Gustavus and those at other academic institutions.
Constitution of the Global China Connection Preamble We, students at Gustavus Adolphus College, do hereby establish the Global China Connection, abiding by all laws and regulations of the college. Definitions: When used in this Constitution: a) “board” refers to all officers; b) “election at large” means that all GCC members are eligible. Article I, Name The name of this student organization shall be the Global China Connection, henceforth abbreviated as the "G-C-C." Article II, Mission The mission of the Global China Connection shall be to increase the understanding of the Chinese culture between Chinese students and students from other countries, to help disseminate the merits of the Chinese culture. The Global China Connection shall also assist Chinese students at Gustavus Adolphus College in various aspects of life, and seek to establish relations between Chinese students at Gustavus and those at other academic institutions. Article III, Body Section A: Membership 1) Members Any student at Gustavus Adolphus College, regardless of status as a full-time, part-time, or exchange student, could sign up as a member. The membership ends with an announced resignation of the member. 2) Officers Due to the nature of membership of the culture club, the positions of the President, Vice-President, Secretary, Public Relation, Technology Coordinator, and Treasure shall be filled on a volunteer base by members of the GCC. In those instances where more than one member applies to one position, the position shall be filled by the election process outlined in Article IV, Section B. Section B: Responsibilities Members of the Global China Connection are strongly encouraged to participate in the activities organized by the G-C-C. Officers shall organize events and provide assistance consistent with the Mission Statement. All officers shall attend all board meetings and participate in discussion, or they must notify President before the meeting if they cannot attend. If members show unwanted behavior at meetings, it is up to the discretion of the President and other officers to remove the member(s) in question. Including the President, officers can be impeached by a 2/3 majority of votes collected by all attendees at G-C-C meeting, if the members were notified of this meeting one week in advance. Officers are responsible for training new officers in their respective positions. Article IV, Officers Section A, Qualifications Candidates for Officers shall be members of the Global China Connection. Section B, Elections In those instances where more than one member applies to one position, the officer for this position shall be elected at large as a ticket in an election by members of the Global Culture Connection. The tickets shall be collected by the current president of the G-C-C. In those instances where the position of the president is vacant, this duty is extended to the faculty advisor. Section C, Duties The following officers shall perform these specified duties: 1) President: The President shall: a) preside at a board meeting; b) perform the duties at election outlined in Article IV, Section B; c) set the agenda for meetings. d) prepare the budget along with the Treasurer. e) vote only in the case of a tie of the Board, in the selection of new Board members, or in the removal of Board members. 2) Secretary: The Secretary shall: a) compile and distribute the minutes and agendas for both the executive and general meetings. b) keep the general G-C-C documents and gather any reports when deemed necessary. c) perform all correspondence and clerical work assigned by the officers. d) inform all members of the G-C-C about when and where meetings and activities shall take place. e) act as a resource person to all members of the G-C-C. 3) Treasurer: The Treasurer shall: a) keep records of all financial transactions and reports the financial status at each meeting of the board. b) approve all requests from the Board members prior to presentation to the Student Senate. c) be responsible for all financial aspects of specific programs and projects. d) inform the board of G-C-C’s financial standings. e) work in cooperation with the President to prepare the G-C-C budget and submit it to the board for approval. f) evaluate the expenditure and administer the budget as agreed upon by the board. 4) Public Relation Coordinator The Public Relation Coordinator shall: a) contact and arrange outside resources for G-C-C activities; b) design advertisements, e.g. handouts, for the club. 5) Technology Coordinator The Technology Coordinator shall: a) be the webmaster of the G-C-C website; b) be responsible for technology support of G-C-C events; Article V, Amendments All amendments shall be passed by officers, and endorsed by the faculty advisor. The amendment shall go into effect immediately, unless otherwise specified.
