Their Majesties' InterestsTheir Majesties King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden

The King's Interests

His Majesty King Carl XVI Gustaf's concern for the environment makes him an active participant in environmental protection initiatives and nature conservation. His fondness of outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, skiing, and sailing began at an early age as a Boy Scout. He now serves as the Honorary Chairman of the World Scout Foundation. His knowledge of natural history and environmental affairs earned him the United States Environmental Protection Agency Award.

The Queen's Interests

Her Majesty Queen Silvia's patronage of the first World Congress Against Commercial Exploitation of Children led to her involvement with children abroad. In 1999, she founded the World Childhood Foundation, focusing on the most marginalized children and getting them and their families the help they need. Her concern for children who are abused and who are suffering and in difficulty was deepened when, in connection with that Congress, she realized the magnitude of the problems involved.
