Lianying Shan has taught courses in Japanese language and literature, East Asian literature and culture, and Women and Gender Studies in East Asia at Gustavus Adolphus College since 2008. She received her Ph.D. in East Asian Studies from Princeton University, where she focused primarily on modern Japanese literature, with secondary fields in premodern Japanese literature and literary theory. She also completed her master’s degree in Comparative Literature at Penn State University. Professor Shan’s interest in Japanese studies began at Beijing University in China, where she majored in Japanese Language, Literature, and Culture.
