Eric Vrooman

Eric Vrooman is a senior continuing assistant professor of English who directs the Gustavus Writing Center and serves as the Fellowships Advisor. He piloted the first full-semester SigX course for interns at sites that included the Mayo Clinic, COPAL (Communities Organizing Latine Power and Action), and the Dividend Music Group. Eric earned a B.A. in English from Carleton College and an M.F.A. in Fiction Writing from UNC-Wilmington. He has also taught at Macalester College, Tulane University, and The Loft Literary Center.

A former literary agent and an active freelance book writer and structural editor, Eric’s short fiction has appeared in The Kenyon Review, The Cream City Review, Passages North, Monkeybicycle, Hobart, Twelve Stories, Minnesota Monthly, and Ninth Letter. He has received a Minnesota State Arts Board Artist Initiative Grant, a SASE/Jerome Award, and the Provost’s Award for Teaching Excellence by a Non-Tenure-Track Faculty Member.

Eric serves as the faculty advisor for Sigma Tau Delta (English Honor Society), the Dead Poets Society, and the Chess Club.

In his spare time, Eric enjoys gardening, playing games that don’t involve much (if any) running, and leading writing workshops at the Le Sueur County Jail.
