President Cabinet Summary
October 17 Cabinet Meeting Summary
1. Special Assistant to the President for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Alisa Rosenthal reviewed the goals of the President’s Council on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (PCDEI) and discussed the process of merging the PCDEI Blueprint for Progress into Gustavus Acts 1.1 and 1.3 strategies.
2. Discussion was held regarding Gustavus Acts, including priorities, funding, and the implementation process.
3. Members approved the revised Employee Compensation Committee
charter.
4. Discussion was held regarding Gustavus systems and their information security status. Vice President Rooney reminded the group that GTS strongly recommends that all employees enable two-factor authentication on their devices to provide enhanced security on their accounts (contact: Jessie Twaddle, Lead Information Security Specialist in GTS).
News and Announcements
Student Office Hours…an opportunity for current students to meet with the Provost. Stop by to share feedback, ask questions or enjoy a conversation with Provost Brenda Kelly. All meetings will take place in the Provost’s Office on the main floor of the Carlson Administration Building.
The following dates and times are available as walk-in meetings on a first-come, first-served basis. No appointment necessary! Meetings can be with individual students or with groups of up to three students. To accommodate as many students as possible, each student or group will have about a 15-minute visit.
- Wed., Oct. 25, 2017 from 9-10 a.m.
- Wed., Nov. 15, 2017 from 11 a.m.-12 p.m.
- Mon., Dec 11, 2017 from 9 a.m.-10 a.m.
Postage Stamps...A variety of holiday and winter stamps will be available at the college post office beginning November 1, 2017. You can purchase them at the window or order online and charge your personal account.
Library Hours for Fall Break...Friday, Oct. 20: 8 a.m.-4:45 p.m.; Saturday, Oct. 21: 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; Sunday, Oct. 22: Noon-6 p.m.; Monday, Oct. 23: 8 a.m.-4:45 p.m.; Tuesday, Oct. 24: 8 a.m.-1 a.m.

Lund Center - Main Entrance Canopy Repairs...Beginning Monday, October 23, roofing contractors will be working on the repair and selective replacement of the metal canopy over the main entrance into the lower level of Lund Center. Please use the Southeast door as the main entrance during the implementation of this project. We hope to have this completed by mid-week, but depending on the weather it might take the entire week.
New Service-Learning and Travel Opportunities for Employees...The offices of Community-Based Service and Learning (CBSL) and Human Resources are offering Gustavus faculty and staff the opportunity to be Trip Advisers for upcoming Habitat for Humanity volunteer trips during spring break (April 1-April 8). This is an exceptional way for employees to grow in community service learning and professional development. Trip Adviser guidelines are posted on the CBSL website. There is no cost to participate and all employees are eligible (see guideline for approvals needed). Applications are online here (and on the CBSL website) and must be submitted by November 10, 2017. CBSL staff and campus Habitat for Humanity board representatives will review applications and select the individuals who meet the selection criteria. Gustie Recognition Postcards...Have you recently noticed that someone in the Gustavus community is doing great things? Maybe someone went out of their way to help you with a project and you want to thank them. The Office of Marketing and Communication has several different postcards designed to send to people within the community to express your thanks and appreciation for their work. Exploring Religious Questions Series... "Lutheran Reformers (1517-2017): Then and Now, Here and Abroad". This four-week course continues on Monday, Oct. 23 (7-9 p.m., Olin 103). The third session in this series will be a lecture by Dr. Darrell Jodock (Professor Emeritus at Gustavus Adolphus College) on "North and South America: Educators, Environmentalists, and Liberation Theologians". Sponsored by the Gustavus Adolphus College Office of Church Relations; and the Bernhardson Chair.

Off Campus Events of Interest
- All hunting widows and women looking to get away from it all, join us for a day away retreat. Bring your quilting, knitting, scrapbooking, painting or any other project you want to work on and let us pamper you with a wonderful breakfast, lunch and late afternoon high tea. If you don't have a project, join us with a puzzle, a book, or just come and socialize the day away with your friends. Inside Gustavus is a newsletter for Gustavus Adolphus College employees produced by the Office of Marketing and Communication. It is published weekly during the academic year (except during the week of Thanksgiving, the Christmas break, Touring Week, and the Spring and Easter breaks). Anyone may submit items by filling out an online submission form. While online submissions are preferred, items may also be submitted typewritten on a letter-sized sheet of paper.
