Inside Gustavus December 8, 2016 | Volume 49, Number 14

President Cabinet Summary

1.  Members approved the Facilities and Administrative Cost Distribution Policy as submitted.

2.  Provost Brenda Kelly shared the proposed provost office organizational structure for FY ’18 and indicated that she will also share this information at the December 15 faculty meeting. The Curriculum Committee will also be giving a report on its progress of the general education curriculum reform at the faculty meeting.

3.  Members approved the hiring of three Dining Service positions: Executive Chef (30 hours/40 weeks), Production Manager (full-time), and Market Place Supervisor (full-time). The current position of Executive Chef and Production Manager is being replaced with two separate positions as a part of a smooth transition toward a retirement. Given the reduced hours of the Executive Chef, the incremental cost to the College will be minimal.

The Mankato Free Press focused on Gustavus in its coverage of the Office of Higher Education's new state report on sexual misconduct.

KEYC covered Christmas in Christ Chapel, including interviews with first-year Emily Hannan and Al Behrends, who is retiring this winter after participating in all 44 years of Christmas in Christ Chapel.

The St. Peter Herald covered a visit to town (and Gustavus) by leaders from Saint Peter's sister city, Petatlan, Mexico. Chaz Brown '11 teaches at the university in Petatlan and led the delegation.

The Festival of St. Lucia was previewed and covered by the St. Peter Herald. KEYC and the Mankato Free Press will also be releasing pieces this week.

First-year Austyn Menk is featured in a Mankato Magazine piece (scroll to page 26) about his study of piano with Paul Baumgartner and Bonnie Jorgensen.

Mankato Magazine also featured a piece on Doc E's Life-Changing Salsa (scroll to page 30), which grew out of the Gustavus Social Entrepreneurs Club under the direction of Paul Estenson.

Chaplain Brian Konkol is quoted in a Mankato Free Press piece on Mankato's YWCA forum on race that took place this week.
