Benefit Option Meetings...Open enrollment benefit explanation meetings will take place during the week of November 7 in Alumni Hall. These meetings are for Gustavus benefit eligible employees. Plan to attend one of these sessions to learn about your 2017 benefits.

There are several sessions available and space is limited so once you select your date and time, you will be unable to make changes. Please click on this link to select your meeting time.  

TIAA-CREF Individual Counseling Sessions… A TIAA-CREF representative will be on campus on Nov. 21 and Nov. 22, 2016. To schedule an appointment, go to www.tiaa-cref.org/schedulenow or call (800) 732-8353, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. (ET).

Have you heard...? Exciting changes are on the horizon for our Gustavus alumni events. Join the Office of Alumni and Parent Engagement for a wine and cheese reception from 4-5 p.m. on Wed., Nov. 9 in the Three Crowns Room. Learn more about the switch to a spring reunion weekend for all classes, expanded opportunities for distinguished alumni engagement and affinity-based gatherings at homecoming, and how you and your department can get involved. Christmas in Christ Chapel Tickets On Sale...Employees and students each receive one free ticket for Christmas in Christ Chapel, happening December 2, 3, & 4. Tickets are available now. Christmas in Christ Chapel 2016: Ubuntu, Jesu: From the Cradle of Humankind to the Ends of the Earth, celebrates unity by connecting the incarnation of Christ with the creation of humankind in Africa. Ushers are also requested for each service. HLC Interim Report Feedback Sessions…The College Accreditation Committee is drafting the HLC interim report that is due on December 31, 2016. A copy of the interim report draft will be shared with the community around November 11, 2016. Community feedback on the report draft is valued and will be received by the College Accreditation Committee in two ways: an online Google form and through open feedback sessions, occurring as follows:

Thursday, November 17 at 10:30-11:20 a.m. in the Konferensrum (Campus Center 203A)
Monday, November 21 at 2:30-3:30 p.m. in the Board Room (Campus Center 201)
Tuesday, November 22 at 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in the Rundquist Room (Campus Center 210)

The committee invites feedback on this draft on or before November 22, so that the report can be finalized for a timely submission in December. This report will inform our HLC on-campus, comprehensive evaluation visit scheduled to take place on March 13-14, 2017. Thank you for your feedback and participation in this important process.

English professor Joyce Sutphen was interviewed on WCCO Radio after Bob Dylan won the Nobel Prize for Literature.

The St. Peter Herald's update on the construction of the new high school included reference to road updates that will take place on the western edge of the Gustavus campus.

The St. Peter Herald ran a piece on the 2016 Gustavus Athletics Hall of Fame inductees.

Gustavus was included on MSN's list of the best college food in America, which uses rankings from Niche.

Off Campus Events of Interest

Ellis Jones Birthday Party... An open house is planned to honor Ellis Jones, emeritus professor, for his 85th birthday. The open house will be held on Sat., Nov. 12 in the Jackson Campus Center from 2-4:30 p.m. Greetings may be sent to 301 South Washington Avenue, Apt. 205, Saint Peter.

Trunk or Treat Event...John Ireland Catholic School invites you and your family to a Trunk or Treat event. The event is from 6-8 p.m. on Sat., Oct. 29 in the Church of St. Peter parking lot. Come in your best Halloween costumes for an evening of fun, fellowship and treats.  The students of John Ireland Catholic School hope to see you. Come out and meet some of the younger members of the St. Peter community. All are welcome and encouraged to attend!

Inside Gustavus is a newsletter for Gustavus Adolphus College employees produced by the Office of Marketing and Communication. It is published weekly during the academic year (except during the week of Thanksgiving, the Christmas break, Touring Week, and the Spring and Easter breaks). Anyone may submit items by filling out an online submission form. While online submissions are preferred, items may also be submitted typewritten on a letter-sized sheet of paper.
