News and Announcements

Thank you...The 2016 Nobel Conference Committee thanks the entire community for going above and beyond in welcoming visitors to campus, engaging with the speakers and guests, and making the event a success. The Nobel Conference would not be possible without the support of students, faculty, and staff from across campus who contribute their talents in a variety of ways.

Mandatory training requirements...In campus mail employees recently received an updated copy of the brochure entitled “2016-2017 Faculty and Staff Guide to Helping Students Who Have Experienced Sexual Misconduct or Harassment.” Included was a letter with information about the new mandatory training procedure.

Please be reminded that all College employees must participate in this required training every academic year. This year, the required Title IX annual training and post-training assessment must be completed before Monday, October 3, 2016. Many employees are Campus Security Authorities (CSAs) under the Clery Act in addition to being Title IX responsible employees. Those employees will need to complete both required courses.

If you did not receive the email with your username and password for online training (sent August 23), or need your training re-set (for anyone who does not pass the post-test with at least 80 percent in three attempts), please contact Lisa Octigan, eoctigan@gustavus.edu.

If you need another copy of the “2016-2017 Faculty and Staff Guide to Helping Students who Have Experienced Sexual Misconduct or Harassment” or have any questions, please contact Title IX Coordinator, Julie Kline, at 507-933-6075 or TitleIXCoordinator@gustavus.edu.

Tuition Benefits Explained...Kirk Carlson and Richard Aune will provide information about admission, tuition benefit, and tuition exchange options, Thurs., Oct. 13, from 12 to 1 p.m. in the Dive. There will be a short presentation with time for questions after. Feel free to bring your lunch. All employees with current high school juniors or seniors are encouraged to attend. Contact Kirk Carlson (x6362 or kcarlson@gustavus.edu) if you have questions.

Plan to Attend Benefits 101 Training...Please join us as Julie Kline, Associate Vice President, Human Resources, presents an educational session on understanding our benefits package. In this meeting we will be discussing specific ways in which you can manage your benefits to fit your needs. Spouses and significant others are welcome to attend.

In addition to understanding your benefits, the Benefits Advisory Committee and Human Resources will be asking for your feedback on some potential benefit changes for 2017. This will be your only opportunity to provide us with formal feedback so we want you to be well-versed in our options and prepare for open enrollment.

Benefits 101 sessions will be held in the Heritage Room on Monday, October 3: 8:30 a.m. – 10:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., and 2:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 4 in the Board Room at the following times: 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. and
3:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Watch for benefit open enrollment communication, meeting dates and times to be sent out in the next month.

In-Service Opportunity...Learn 2 Live will provide an in-service for faculty and staff to provide resources to help support students. Save the date for October 17 in the Board Room. There will be two afternoon sessions offered. Details to follow in an email/invite soon.

Announcement from Facilities Management...Hello Walk will be closed starting October 3 through October 16 to resolve water ponding issues between Anderson Hall and the Heating Plant and to address site re-grading of the Anderson Hall building. Pedestrians are asked to find alternative routes during this time, especially pedestrians traveling to/from Pittman, Sohre, and Confer/Vickner. Please contact Facilities Management with any questions at 933-7504 or pplant@gustavus.edu.

Saint Peter Weekly Newsletter...As we continue to find ways to strengthen our partnership with the City of Saint Peter we would like to share this link to their weekly newsletter. Be sure to read it for the latest information about the greater Saint Peter community.
