Blake Couey's (Religion) book chapter “Evoking and Evading: The Poetic Presentation of the Moabite Catastrophe in Isaiah 15–16” appeared in Concerning the Nations: Essays on the Oracles against the Nations in Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Ezekiel (edited by Else K. Holt, Hyun Chul Paul Kim, and Andrew Mein; London: Bloomsbury T&T Clark, 2015). His encyclopedia entry “Isaiah (son of Amoz)” has been published on the website Bible Odyssey, a project of the Society of Biblical Literature that aims to make biblical scholarship more accessible to the public.
Brian Konkol (Chaplains Office) served as keynote speaker for the Minnesota Valley Conference gathering of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), which took place on Feb. 17, at Trinity Lutheran Church in St. Peter, Minn. Konkol spoke on the subject of "Mission as Accompaniment".

- Hillstrom Museum Director Don Myers appeared on KTOE Radio's Talk of the Town program to talk about the Museum's latest exhibitions.

President's Cabinet Summary
The President's Cabinet met on Monday, Feb. 16 and discussed the following items:
- Members approved the hiring of two Student Life replacement positions (Assistant Director of Residence Life and Area Coordinator).
- Members approved the hiring of a full-time GTS position (Web Developer)
- Members approved the Family Emergency Leave Policy as presented.
- Members continued discussions regarding the FY 2016 budget benchmarks and planning.
News & Announcements
AED Maps...Automated External Defibrillator (AED) maps showing the location of the AEDs on campus are now available online at gustavus.edu/aed. These maps can be saved and printed whenever you need them.
Race and Student Success Workshop Series...The Multicultural Student Programs & Services office is sponsoring a semester long Race and Student Success Workshop Series for students. There are separate tracks for students who identify as white and students who self-identify as non-white and/or multi-racial. The cap is 12 students per each track. A sample of topics that will be covered are: privilege, oppression, bias, stereotype threat, post-traumatic slave syndrome, self-awareness, & resiliency. The first meeting will be on Thursday, Feb. 26 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the Diversity Center. Guild of St. Lucia Nominees...The Guild of St. Lucia was established in 1958 to honor women who have achieved academic success, displayed leadership qualities, and provided service to the College and others. Fifteen junior women are elected in the spring of each year. Please send names of nominees, along with a brief explanation of how nominees meet the membership criteria, to Guild co-advisor Julie Gilbert at jgilber2@gustavus.edu by Friday, March 6.
Employee Directories...Spring 2015 (lavender in color) employee directories are printed and are now available. Some may have received them in their mailboxes already. Please check with your department staff to assure that enough copies are available for everyone. If you need more, please email nberan2@gustavus.edu, and extra copies will be sent your way, or you may stop in the Telecommunications office and pick one up. We are trying to more closely figure out how many we need to print each semester. Thanks for your help!
Campus Happenings
Handbell Concert...Handbell Musicians of America, Region 7, and Gustavus Adolphus College are pleased to present a concert performed by more than 40 high school musicians who gathered for AdventuRing, a day-long workshop on campus. The concert will be at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 28 in Bjorling Recital Hall. Chad Winterfeldt is the director/clinician for the day, and a dozen or so members of the Gustavus handbell ensembles will participate. The concert is free and open to all.
Theatre & Dance Production...The Department of Theatre and Dance will present The Importance of Being Earnest: A Trivial Comedy For Serious Persons by Oscar Wilde, Feb. 19-22. Directed by Amy Seham, the show will be performed in Anderson Theatre Feb. 19-21 at 8 p.m., with a matinee performance on Feb. 22 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $9 for adults, $6 for students, and free from Gustavus students and staff. Tickets are available online at gustavustickets.com.
Hispanic Film Festival...The Gustavus Hispanic Film Festival will continue at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 23 in Wallenberg Auditorium with the screening of the Argentinian comedy Un cuento chino (Chinese Take-Out).
Building Bridges Conference...The 20thannual Building Bridges Conference will be held on Saturday, March 7, and is titled “Hidden in Plain Sight: Recognizing and Rejecting Rape Culture.” Keynote speakers for this year’s conference include Jessica Valenti and Zerlina Maxwell. Valenti will speak at 9 a.m. in Christ Chapel, while Maxwell will speak at 12 p.m. More information including the entire schedule for the Conference is available online.
Inaugural Christenson Lecture...The inaugural Ronald S. and Kathryn K. Christenson Lectureship in Politics and Lawwill take place at 7 p.m. on March 5 in the Wallenberg Auditorium. This year's speaker is Georgetown University Professor David Cole, co-author of the book Less Safe, Less Free: Why America is Losing the War on Terror. Cole's lecture is titled “After Edward Snowden: The NSA, Your Cellphone, and the Challenge of Preserving Privacy in the Digital Age.” More information is available online.
Faculty Meeting...The regularly scheduled monthly meeting of the faculty will take place Friday, Feb. 27 at 2:30 p.m. in Wallenberg Auditorium.

Off-Campus Events of Interest
Red Carpet Party…The Creative Play Place invites you to join us in celebrating the 87th Academy Awards on Sunday, Feb. 22, at 5 p.m. at Patrick's on Third. There will be food, Oscar watching, entertainment, and much more! Tickets are $30 per couple and include an appetizer, red velvet cake, and choice of pitcher of domestic beer OR two glasses of wine OR two rail drinks; $20 per individual ticket includes appetizer, red velvet cake, and two drinks (domestic beer, wine, or rail drink). This year FREE childcare for all ticket holders will be available at the Saint Peter Community Center during the event! (Free-will donations for childcare are appreciated.) Purchase tickets in advance at the Creative Play Place, Patrick’s, or through a Creative Play Place board member. Proceeds from this fundraiser help keep the Creative Play Place open and free for all!

- The men's tennis team is hosting the ITA 2015 Division III Indoor Championships, Feb. 20-22. Gustavus is scheduled to face Trinity University in a quarterfinal match at 5 p.mm. on Friday, Feb. 20.
- The women's hockey team will celebrate Senior Night when it hosts Bethel University at 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 20.
- The women's basketball team will celebrate Senior Day when it hosts the College of St. Benedict at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 21.
- The men's hockey team team will celebrate Senior Night when it hosts Bethel University at 7:05 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 21.
Congregational Outreach
Retreats...Church Relations in the Center for Servant Leadership will host the staff of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of New Prague in the Retreat Center, Feb. 20-21. The retreat program is a resource offered to ELCA congregations that are also members of the Gustavus Association of Congregations.
Pastor-2-Pastor...Pastors from the Southwestern and Southeastern Minnesota Synods will be on campus for a 24-hour Sabbath retreat, Feb. 19-20. The theme for the gathering will be "Christian Prayer and Meditation Practices and the Medical Sciences: Powerful Healing Resources in our Midst". Speakers for this two-day period will include Mari Thorkelson, Will and Patricia Freiert, and Tammy Olson Devine. Pastor-2-Pastor is a program sponsored by Church Relations in the Center for Servant Leadership, the ELCA synods of southern Minnesota, and Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, and is open to pastors of the ELCA (and CCM/ecumenical partners). The purpose of the program is to help pastors partner for pastoral excellence, and focuses on professional growth and mutual accountability for wellness.
Exploring Religious Questions Series...The mini course "Interfaith Understanding and Cooperation: Historical and Contemporary Approaches among Jews, Christians, and Muslims" will start on Monday, Feb. 23 (7-9 p.m., Olin Hall 103). Rabbi Michael Latz senior rabbi at Shir Tikvah synagogue in Minneapolis will give the first lecture in this series. Sponsored by the Gustavus Adolphus College Center for Servant Leadership, Church Relations; and the Bernhardson Chair.
