Also presenting at this conference was Paige Miller '15 who presented a poster titled "Factors that lead to increased transmission and drug resistance emergence of heartworm in the United States."
Julie Bartley (Geology) has been awarded a grant from the Petroleum Research Fund of the American Chemical Society to conduct a comparative study of stromatolites of different ages and from different environments. Stromatolites are limestone structures built by microbes, and in the distant past they played a role similar to that of coral reefs in today's oceans. This project will involve several Gustavus research students over the three year funding period.
Julie Bartley (Geology), Laura Triplett (Geology), Jim Dontje (ES), Jeff LaFrenierre (arriving in Geography 2014), Cindy Johnson (Biology), and Michele Koomen (Education) have been awarded a grant from the InTeGrate Program. InTeGrate aims to increase geoscience literacy in all students and to connect the earth sciences to issues of societal relevance. Gustavus's project will create a set of climate science teaching modules for use in non-geoscience courses, to support teaching of topics related to climate change.
Melissa Rolnick (Theatre and Dance) was awarded the Lenz Foundation Residential Fellowship at Naropa University for the spring of 2015.
Lisa Heldke (Philosophy) gave a lecture, “On Being a Liberal Artisan: John Dewey, Food Studies, and the Nature of the Liberal Arts," at the University of Oregon.
