Library Information Desk Assistant

Description:   Support student, staff, faculty, and local community by providing courteous customer service skills.  An ideal candidate will be able to do the following tasks:

  • Be able to check in/out library materials.
  • Be able to renew items.
  • Be able to identify the various collections around the library, ie: Archives, Browsing, Diversity display, Nobel, Hasselquist, Young adult, Children's, Government docs, Music scores, General, Periodicals, DVD/AV, Equipment, Reference, and Reserve items, etc.
  • Assisting patrons in placing a hold on a book.
  • Assisting patrons with simple how-tos on ILL .
  • Assist faculty in filling out a course reserve sheet.
  • Collect and make change for the book sale box.
  • Answer the telephone.
  • Assist patrons with basic circulation tasks and minor reference questions.
  • Be able to shelve correctly and organize returned items into their corresponding collection on the return shelf. 
  • Fill printers with paper.  Assist patrons as needed for online printing, or if there are simple issues with the printer, such as a jam.
  • Assisting patrons on how to use our online catalog. 
  • Set up new patron records as needed.
  • Be able to leave clear messages for supervisor as necessary.
  • Any other duties determined by the supervisor.
