Position description:

The Student Sustainability Intern is charged with supporting sustainability action on the Gustavus Adolphus Campus through planning, implementing, and when necessary, leading activities that support a transition to a more environmentally sustainable campus.  The positions are modeled on a student work study position, but a work study award is not necessary to fill the position.

The Student Sustainability Intern will report to the Director of the Johnson Center for Environmental Innovation Director, but will also work collaboratively with other Gustavus community members and organizations, particularly the Linnaeus Arboretum staff, the Environmental Studies Program, the Gustavus Greens, Dining Services and Physical Plant staff.

Energy conservation

Waste reduction and recycling

Composting and food waste management

Bicycle share program

Green house gas inventory and reduction

Publicizing and promoting sustainability programs

Environmental education (Arboretum programming)

Year-end garage sale and clothing swap

Fair trade activities

Big Hill Farm and local food

Connecting diversity and environmental sustainability

In addition to activities determined by the needs of the chosen areas of responsibility, the Student Sustainability Intern will be expected to develop and implement a sustainability project designed to enhance campus sustainability through a modification of an existing effort or a new initiative.
