Sentenced For Life: Confronting the Calamity of Mass Incarceration2013 Building Bridges Conference
We invite you to join us for the 18th Annual Building Bridges Conference, “Sentenced For Life: Confronting the Calamity of Mass Incarceration”, taking place Saturday, March 09, 2013, at Gustavus Adolphus College. This student-led diversity conference will provide a rewarding opportunity to engage in important dialogue as Building Bridges places a spotlight on the injustice of America’s prison system.
Building on tradition, this conference continues to be the platform for students to address significant justice issues in a proactive and informative way. For this reason, we invited Dr. Angela Davis, political activist, scholar and author of Are Prisons Obsolete? as this year’s keynote speaker. Professor Davis will speak on the prison-industrial complex. She focuses on social problems associated with incarceration and the general criminalization of communities affected by poverty and racial discrimination.
Supplementing the keynote speech will be a series of workshops to provide conference attendees with an array of opportunities to learn more about mass incarceration and the different facets of the criminal justice system. The second keynote will be given by Dr. Marc Lamont Hill, academic, activist and political commentator.
We encourage you to attend the 18th annual Building Bridges Conference and join us in challenging the injustices of America’s crime, punishment, and rehabilitation systems.
