Two lectures on Oceans by Sigma Xi Distinguished Lecturer, Dr. Rikk Kvitek: Thursday, March 21 at 7:00pm and Friday March 22 at 1:30pm. Both lectures are free and open to the public and will be held in the Wallenberg Auditorium of Nobel Hall.

The Thursday, March lecture is titled ""You've Got to Be Kidding!" to "Ah-Ha": Hope for our oceans through insight and innovation". The talk, will be aimed at a general audience, and will discuss innovative ways to address the unprecedented threats of climate change, sea level rise, ocean acidification, pollution, fishery declines, coastal erosion, algal blooms, and storm intensification on the coastal oceans and communities.

The Friday March 22 talk will be given during the Chemistry Seminar and is titled "Mediation of the foraging behavior, spatial distribution and ecological influence of sea otters and shorebirds by harmful algal blooms". This talk will be a more technical seminar appropriate for an audience with an introductory science background.

Kvitek's lecture is sponsored by the Gustavus chapter of Sigma Xi, a national research and scientific honor society.
