Description

The 10th minicourse in the Exploring Religious Questions series, "The Changing Religious Landscape in the U.S.,"opens with a presentation by Dr. Darrell Jodock. The findings of recent surveys by the Pew Forum regarding religious affiliation of Americans are an important indicator of current trends. We will explore some of those findings and their implications, and also identify several other developments that affect the role and purpose of faith communities in American society. For example, churches can no longer assume that their members participate in a functioning community. Growing social fragmentation is enhanced by a pervasive distrust of organizations; also, the public image of Christianity has been damaged by the behavior of certain religious leaders.

The course involves 5 consecutive Monday evening class sessions (Feb. 4, 11, 18, 25, and March 4). Advance pre-registration is necessary (limited space is available), and there is a fee for the course. All class sessions begin promptly. In case of cancellation due to winter storms, we will attempt to contact registrants by phone and e-mail, if that information has been provided. (Snow date rescheduling: March 11.)
