Description

You are encouraged to attend the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Lecture at Gustavus Adolphus College on Monday, January 15, 2018 from 10 a.m.-11:30 a.m. in Christ Chapel.

Civil rights leader and sociologist Dr. Joyce Ladner will provide a keynote address titled, "The Civil Rights Movement, Still Marching After All These Years" which will include personal stories as a leader in the movement and reflections on work that continues to be needed.

Ladner is author of numerous articles and seven books including Tomorrow's Tomorrow: The Black Woman which was the first book published in African American Women's Studies and is now considered a classic in the field. Much of her career was spent as a professor and provost at Howard University. She has appeared on nationally syndicated radio and television programs such as CBS Evening News, NBC Evening News, ABC's Nightline, and the MacNeil/Lehrer Hour.

Her career as a sociologist has been shaped through her first hand involvement with the civil rights movement in Mississippi and as a staff member that organized the March on Washington in 1963.

The event will also be live streamed and archived at gustavus.edu/events/mlk.
