Description
Lou Schwartzkopf of the Physics Department at Minnesota State University, Mankato will present a lecture "Is Energy Independence for Minnesota Possible?"
If Minnesota is to become energy-independent, it must replace its imported energy from fossil fuels with homegrown renewable energy -- wind for electricity, ethanol for transportation, and biogas for natural gas. This talk will include calculations to show how much of these renewable energy resources will be needed to achieve energy independence. It will also be shown how we can meet our increasing need for electricity without relying on new coal-fired power plants.
